I am starting this venture after listening to a fascinating television interview by Charlie Rose with two authors. Each had just published a new book about writing. I identified with one of the authors who said he wrote about things he wanted to know know better. And I have done the same--over the years, conducting research on obscure aspects of migraine that interested me, and extensively researching them for publication. He explained that he like taking complex concepts and figuring out the best way to explain them to his students. And I identified with that wholeheartedly--my passion is teaching. Many times on long communtes, I have stared at the road ahead of me thinking about the best way to explain the results of a new study to medical residents or to patients--a way that will help them "get it".
But the second author said that when he writes, it's often like driving at night--he can see no farther ahead of him than his headlights. But he writes because he has to--it's in his DNA. And while I understood the first author better, the second inspired me to do something different.
With both as my inspiration, I will begin a series of postings on migraine.
